Refilling the Air Car
Compressed Air Storage Systems are simple and MDI is planning to install a network of such "Air Filling Stations" where Air Cars can be refilled, in less than three minutes, by connecting the car's tanks directly to the outlet from the high-pressure Air Storage System.
The Air Car has a built-in on-board system that can be plugged into any electrical power outlet to refill the tanks with compressed air. The moto-alternator reverses its process, using electricity to power the compressor and fill up the carbon-fibre air tanks. The compressed air tanks are refilled by using the national power grid, usually at night when electricity rates (3.4 cents / kWh - Ontario) and demand are at their lowest. Refilling time for the Air Cars is about five and a half hours using a 230V outlet. This is the most important advantage of the MDI Compressed Air Technology.
